Laundry Design Ideas.

Considering Laundry design

Its the hardiest most useful room in the house next to your kitchen and bathroom but we tend to neglect its design aesthetic. Here are some tips to consider when planing a great laundry.

Include your mudroom near by, this will allow for brooms and mops and stinky socks straight into the wash.
Make your laundry glamorous then it won’t be such a chore.

Create display space for a little bit of fun.
Keep it light and bright.

Make the space your domain with colours and wallpaper for inspiration
keep the ironing space available all the time not just when your have to iron. Its fast and accessible for “everyone”

Keep the space accessible to open Windows with a great view,
make sure the work bench is as big as you can fit.
If you don’t have the room affix a folding table to the wall.

Create a drawer or cupboard for all your individual needs.
Whites, colours, cleaning, towels, sheets, your sewing pins, needles and cottons.
Everything will have a home.

Use any free space for pet items, pet food or inside home tools and
a space for hangers for your ironing or delicates.

small supplies boxes or jars for cleaning sponges, rags and cleaning items, powder, pegs and washing liquid.
…..and of course a stool. Why stand up to fold all that laundry when you could be sitting.

This is my all time favourite for space design.
It has everything a drawer for laundry baskets
broom cupboards a gorgeous sink a viewing window.
Every last inch of room has a cupboard and of course a wrapping station.

Don’t be afraid of decorating your laundry like any other space. A nice soft rug under foot, some colour and themed items that keep the flow from the rest of your home like twigs and seashells.
Lastly add some colour in your cabinets for a bit of fun in this space.

The Laundry won’t be a task any more.

  1. Oh my gosh, I am in love with the mudroom off the laundry and have saved it to my inspiration folder. I must, must, must find a way to incorporate this layout into the floorplan of my next house.

    Thanks, K!
