Butlers Pantry Design Tips

Design tips for designing your Butlers Pantry.
1. Butlers Pantries are the ultimate storage prep space.
So make a list of everything you need to store or prepare in here.
Dish washing
Durability
Drainboards
Awkward, tall, deep or odd shaped items need a specific space s
measure them and house them in here.
2. Remember your appliances need a home also.
Store them in spaces that can be plugged in and used easily.
Keep enough space around them for heat if you are considering housing things like microwaves or rice cookers.

3. Great lighting is essential in this space. This is a smaller area and generally a space without windows so you need fantastic task lighting. Consider shelf lighting for those higher darker corners. Also work out how much of the pantry can be seen from the kitchen. You might find it beneficial to add a gorgeous pendant light to keep your design flow, flowing.
4. Add some personality. This space will be smaller but a lot more going on. You will not be part of the fun going on when guests come over or the fun of your family……I can see you smiling.
So create your own little something to look at.

5. Decide on your key design features.
Do you want plate holders, tea towels hooks, bins, steps and baskets.
Drawers, open shelves or cabinets or you may want to mix them all in together.

6. If your mixing your cabinetry, keep your shelves shallow so your items don’t get lost behind other things this will make It easy to keep your pantry visually easy to look after and find all things you know you have.
7. Hide your Butlers pantry behind other external cabinetry.
Blend your butlers pantry entrance into your Cabinetry so you would never know it was there and create a huge impact when you start walking through.
This may double as your panic room.
Would the robbers ever guess to look through your pantry for your goodies.

8. Keep your Flooring the same throughout for the easy clean.
If you change flooring you may find that small task space a pain if you have to switch from brooms to mops and vacuums. Keep your colours and handles similar or the same to create a wide open feeling when looking from the Butlers pantry out.

9. If you are light on funds just add large open plan shelves.
This will allow you to outfit as you want with baskets and mini retro fit shelves to store food and smaller items.
10. Consider this space as an essential room but keep it in an easy access area. If it is behind small doors around a corner that is hard and awkward to enter and exit with those larger pieces you will stop using the space as you wanted. Make it as big as the space you can afford to add in.
This space is not for everyone but it will work for most. Keep your kitchen just for show and hide all your uglies in this great space.

I have a fabulous Interview tomorrow so I look forward to chatting more then.
