The Chestnuts 11, Our exterior colour considerations.

My Facade was designed  by our building designers with our input obviously. Our design brief was that we would like our front yard to be enclosed and usable for the children and even if we are not out there they can feel safe. We asked for the front of our home to be a mix of modern and classic to appeal to both our exterior home loves. I feel they have succeeded in capturing both styles successfully and at the end of the day they have to please us more than we have to care what anyone else thinks. I hope I am not sounding rude but we have always built to eventually sell and what would someone else like not what do we want. Its a game changer for sure. Building with a 5 or 10 year plan means we can
“let go” a little and tell them exactly what we would love for our house to look like.
I also asked for a mix of materials or “Elements”. That has been my love for well ever hence the name Elements at Home. Its who I am, its the base of all my design and interior decisions. In home wares, design and decorating I think of how can we add man made with artificial or straight lines with organic lines. This is my slight Brutalist addition to my home. (don’t worry I have only just discovered what brutalist means myself. This picture above shows you the kitchen and fun side of our house. It will be the linking run between our front yard and back yard so the kids get full run of both areas. Another of our main design briefs. We have been concentrating this last week on our actual colour choices for the exterior and nailing down what we want for our materials. A trip down the coast for all the skillion style homes gave us some ideas and I thought I would share with you what we found.

Timber under the eaves

Or white panelling under the eaves.

or Paint the eaves. Which one do you like?
Panelling on the feature wall instead of feature paint

I really like this mix of colours also.

Silver frames are a must for Hubby

My favourite mix of of this research journey

White garage door with silver divides

Still like this one.

Keep it simple with all white. Has to be the right white though.
I will do actual colours in the next few weeks but I am happy for any input at this stage with colours you have or love.

  1. Agree with the garage door. Bit yuk! Love the timber roof, very striking but also like the white. Adds an air of decadence doesn’t it? Love the skill ion look. A lot of our houses down here have flat and very leaky roves. Also, there was a trend to do rooftop viewing decks with internal access. BIG mistake = leaks +++. Sadly, lots of tarps around at the moment. Oppsie! Love your front and side elevations. I have a passion for plans. How darn exciting!

  2. Love all these images…. can’t remember where you live but these remind me of the new estates at Salt, Kingsliff. All different but expressing similar elements in varying amounts. Love the timber eaves but keep maintenance in mind which will of course depend on your build locale! Check out clear annodised window frames. This achieves the top-notch true silver colour and what we’ve used here. Also ask for a quote in Commercial framing (what we’ve used), depending on style chosen sometimes only marginally more expensive but far mor robust in appearance. Exciting times!!!! x kl

  3. Thanks for sharing your home design ideas!!! It’s not easy to make everything perfect, but we always try our best to make it. Building Home is like biggest investment in one time. So we should take care about those factors, which can arise the trouble in future like water drainage system, gutters and downspouts etc. Low quality material like plastic in gutters can increases your maintenance budget, I found here http://www.guttermasters.com.au/aluminium-guttering about the aluminum gutters. Its qualities really impressed me.
