The Conversation Pit

A sunken Lounge room was always part of our plan on our current build but the cost involved with engineering was starting to blow out and we already have our lounge room sitting on the pools edge so it would have become way to complicated.
Seeing as we like the split level feel of homes and how they create amazingly different zones we have been considering instead an outdoor conversation pit.
Let me say now before I go any further my Hubby was devastated at the no sunken lounge decision so we now have a sunken trampoline and a sunken pool equipment area.
So you see the obsession for sunken is much stronger in him. I think this is to compensate for the fact he is not able to have a sunken (under croft) garage.
Anyway here is what I have discovered about conversation pits.
Lots of conversations , games and relaxing can be visualised here.
A Modernist conversation pit was always created to fit a table and sometimes free standing chairs.
This is the perfect example of a 70’s residential design in a modest home.
Now this is where we are heading. Love the punches of colour
or something like this.
Maybe without the Pit we can still achieve the feel with a round sofa.
But who am I kidding we all know My Hubby will just find a way to sink it.

  1. What a shame you cant work it into the build, I guess you cant have everything on your wish list! They do look pretty cool I could imagine sitting around having drinks and chats with friends. An outdoor one would work well too with a fire pit in the centre.

  2. Oh, how freaky! I was just talking about my love for the sunken too ( the split-level even more so ;) x

    1. Ooooh, I am so happy to that there is someone to share the love of the slit level. Funny that you were just talking about it.
