The Chestnuts 11, Boys Room.
I am starting to plan for my Children’s rooms based on their taste which is mostly guided by me and my need for “everything has a home” spaces. I also have to consider the flow of the house. I like shopping in my home, which basically means every 3 months I take things from 1 room and move them to another to create a new look. It keeps my design needs met and my husband credit card happy.
The image above is one I have had in my head for my sons room for about a year. The idea that he could have different zones within his room. Sleeping, playing, reading being those zones. I know this sort of cabinetry/componentry is pricey even with an in house cabinet maker so I am trying to create the look without the built in.
I have decided on this bed and my son has chosen his favourite colour “black” well it comes in charcoal but that still makes him happy. I feel it will create something of a zone. With Reading up top away from the little sister and sleeping below or vice a versa. We are having a play room so toys are not a big problem in this room but friends sleeping over is now solved also.
A double sidetable that can sit at the end of the bed or at the side but with extra storage and great table space to house “special” items.
A rug that can appeal to the look of our home and blend with the concrete floors, in wool as my son is allergic to polyester………and in colours willing to hide boy feet.
An amazing green pendant with just enough colour to make a difference in the height of the room.
Wall art that will last the test of time. He loves all things wheel sport related, skateboarding, scooters, bikes and racing car driving…………coz that’s what he is going to be. A racing car driver scientist. You know there will be a huge demand for those in 15 years.
What have I missed? Let me know if I need anything extra from your experience.
Like your ideas here, although after making-up 8 bunk beds in one evening in prep for client handover, (Award winning one too! Deets here: http://eternalicons.blogspot.com.au/2012/04/australian-interior-design-awards-our.html)I’m really not a fan! Love the concept though and especially the zoning idea and light fitting! x KL
