The Chestnuts 11, White, timber, black and concrete kitchen

Everything has changed, we have flipped it,  on its head. The biggest part of the build I mean.
We have changed from a black kitchen to a white and timber kitchen, above is our plan in black. Now we are changing it to white Essa stone tops, timber island cupboards, timber fridge and oven cupboards and white back of kitchen. A timber desk top (that’s a drop down desk on the left) and I am thinking a black splash back unless you all tell me otherwise. The floors are all still concrete.
Seriously, whats that phrase people use for changing their minds at the 11th hour, well that’s the phrase I would use if I remembered it. I am shocking at phrases and remembering how to put them together. Anyway you all know what I mean. I had researched the hell out of this black kitchen I wanted. I had done the hard yards talking Hubby into it and getting him seeing my vision. I created mood boards and almost a had a full presentation ready before he said “yes, I am on board” Now its all over, I just couldn’t find a black laminate or timber veneer for our cupboard doors that I was completely and utterly happy with and every now and then a small hint of doubt would creep up and whisper in my ear……”you will regret this later on” I am a Gemini so I do hear things in a non crazy split personality kind of way.
So here is my inspiration, and some of my decisions and I thank you for riding this crazy kitchen roller coaster. Next up we are researching front doors and bathroom tiles….exciting I hear you all shout, well yes it will be.
Please feel free to let me in on your thoughts, I need whatever ideas you have, to cement these plans.

Images are all here
I changed my taps too….I tell you about them another time though.

  1. Wow that is a big change to the design. I love the timber look against the white. With the right flooring it will look amazing :)

  2. Yes it is a change but these things happen! I think a white and timber is classic and while a black kitchen would have been amazing I don’t know how you would feel about it 2 years on. It looks fab though!

    1. I thats it, I may have loved it but then regretted it later on so best I play it safe. This is supposed to be the forever house. ;-)

  3. This is what I’m having for our kitchen. I’m loving the 3rd image, I might have to go with those pendant lights!

  4. Can you tell me where the second image is from? I love the colour of the timber. I am currently looking at laminate with a timber finish but can not find the exact colour. Are all of the above actual timber or are any laminate? I am just starting out and don’t know a great deal. I love pic 1 and 2 especially.

    1. You can find the image here. This is where I first found it. http://pinterest.com/caesarstonesa/caesarstone-kitchen-designer-2012-finalists/
You may find a similar look from the laminex Timber Veneer range. This product actually looks like real timber and being in South Africa its hard to know what type of timber/brand they use most. From what I have found you can achieve this look with a real timber vaneer and use a white oak but have it stained to your liking. Its quite a path to get the right look. For me Budget constraints mean sticking with a laminated finished timber veneer. I also work for The Laminex group so I know this product and have found it to be very good.
