How To Decorate with a Monochromatic Pallete
Decorating with one colour sounds easier than it is. Its hard to imagine the same colour decor throughout a room but that’s what Monochromatic decorating is.
Once you see the pictures you will know what I am talking about, as they all look stunning.
Choosing that one specific colour you are going to use in your Monochromatic scheme is sometimes the next dilemma.
This style of decorating is always eye catching and statement making and all based on how well its put together. Which shades and tones you use of the colour you have chosen and where you place each shade is also part of the success. You have to be careful not to create a boring bland room which screams out “I need something else” (Rooms can scream you know I have had many shout at me over the years of being a designer.)
Here are my top 5 tips on how to decorate with a monochromatic style.
1. Start with your base colour as a standard colour, think blue, green, black……..not Turquoise or magenta. Its much harder to build up in tones and shades from a less used decor colour.
2. Add in shades of the chosen colour starting with 1 shade lighter and then 1 shade darker
3. Try and use some textural elements for interest
4. Keep your monochromatic look balanced with some additions of white, black and neutral, even if its your rug colour or picture frame colour.
5. Commit, commit, commit……..if you decide to decorate in a monochromatic style please follow through or it will look like you are simply bouncing colour throughout your room and not decorating in a specific style.
I love monomchromatics in a bedroom so that my eyes rest and aren’t stimulated before going to bed. I adore that second picture – so soothing.
