The Chestnuts 11. More Exterior colour decisions.
Last night Husband and I sat down to decide our exterior colour selections and guess what, we couldn’t agree on our scheme. Not a surprise as we both take time in different ways to get to the same point.
We instead came up with the 3 colours we like and now we have to decide where these colours are going to be placed.
One of the big decisions to start with is roof colour. We both new it was going to be light.
So I said white and he said light. So I think he has agreed it should be……..white.
Now lets move on to the next selection.
This is our colour mix that we want with some charcoal thrown in, So by rights our house will be rendered in white of some sort. I am not a fan of all matchy matchy but I think this will need a simple colour scheme and the 60 30 10 rule will have to be achieved in a round about way.
This is our facade as drawn by the designers but we need to add our personality into this so it has our stamp on it as such, hence the new addition of white roof and as of 5 seconds ago silver window frames.
OK Husband is adamant about this and I don’t have enough of a preference to disagree.
So Silver Frames it is.
Look at us go, decisions are being made left right and centre.
Here is the actual rock we will be using on our blade wall. You can see it on our facade picture and this wall runs from the outside all the way inside and reaches to the pool wall. It will be rock inside our house also. I can tell you this part I am excited about. With this in mind we cant add anymore rock outside so this rock will be our 10%
I am in 2 minds regarding the garage door. It has been drawn in as a timber door and our front door will be timber so this is a great way of tying the 2 together and remember the rock will be in a similar colour tone. So to timber or not to timber I am not sure.
I have been toying with making the garage wall charcoal so the timber door sits in that wall with a lot more ease.
But all white is also OK with me.
So looking back we have now nailed down 4 items.
The roof will be white. tick
The Main render will be white. tick
The windows will be silver. tick
The rock will be greige. tick
What garage door colour do you recommend?
How exciting! I wish I could be of more help about garage door colors but I have never had to pick a color of a garage door before. I only ever pick internal colors…But it looks great so far.
One of the strangest accepted elements in home design is the featuring of the garage. The garage is where you put the car, why is it an architectual element? If it were up to me the garage would be around back. Some homes even glamorize the garage door with windows and hinges that call attention to it. Gross, who cares about your garage door? No one. The hope is that your guests arrive at your front door and the garage, where ever it is located, disappears. So if it were me I would do everything possible to exclude it from visual consideration. But then, its not my house.
ahhh decisions decisions…I particularly like the garage door in timber…I love the mixture of different elements and at the end of the day it is there it is a part of the home, so why not incorporate some beautiful timber slats into the mix…what are your other considerations ?
