Delftware for decor.
I picked up some Chinese Delft look squat pots the other day, an absolute find at $10 for 3.
I think I spyed some more last night and may just go back for more.
It made me start thinking as much as I bought them and couldn’t resist the price, will they really go with my new found theme of a tribal industrial contemporary mix.
I am not so sure but keep them on there own in a bathroom or study.
Thinking out loud here everyone and hoping for someone to chime in and help me out.
Lets see what else I found out about these delft
These are my pots taking pride of place on the dining table at the moment until I decide.
Wallpaper maybe cheaper than the real thing with this many on the wall.

Delftware gained its name as blue and white pottery or tinware that was made in or around Delft in the Netherlands. It has been around since around the 1600’s where it was typically hand decorated.
Delft is not a brand name it is purely the style, generally its hand painted blue flowers, patterns and sometimes dutch landscapes.

Delftware is obviously mostly printed ceramic ware now but if you think you have some genuine delftware you can check by looking at these few things.1. The piece is only painted with 1 colour , Cobalt.
2.You will see actual paint streaks within the paint. You may need a magnifying glass for this.
3. No two pieces of the same landscape will be exactly the same. Check birds or clouds a delft craftsman will never get these exactly the same.
4.You should find a signature or monogram of the artist and a factory mark
5.Sometime a sticker will be placed on the piece saying handcrafted even when its not and this is legal.
6. Some lines can be hand painted and the rest printed so they can say its been handcrafted
7. Either way the mass produced stuff looks amazing and can create the look your chasing but if you want a real piece you will generally pay more because of the time and artistry that goes into it.
