Our Design Rollercoaster. Jump aboard.
Our finding land and building Roller coaster ride is back on hence the modern design research. Woohoo.
We can’t help ourselves this will be house number 13, lucky for some but its only build number 3. The rest have been renovations and 1 rental.
With our last build One builder told us we would be over capitalising in the design dollars before offering us a quote $150k over the budget we told him we would like to build to. What the?
After having this conversation
US: “This is our budget in dollars and we don’t have a stash in our back pocket just in case you go over. Can you work with the building designer to make sure we don’t invest time effort and excitement to make sure everyone stays with this budget ??
BUILDER: Yes, we can definitely build your design to that budget, and we will keep in talks with the building designer.
Forward 6 months later after all is ready to go and we sit down to find out they are complete fools and have wasted our time. $150k over??. Are you kidding me. Lets go back to a big project builder and jump through their hoops, at least they will stick to our budget.
So this was our previous experience with a boutique builder but given the contemporary home design and fact we will be in this home for at the very least 7 years (if you know me don’t roll your eyes or laugh) there is only one option and its building designer and boutique builder.
So we will keep open minded with building products and new options but feel much more confident we can achieve our longer term home within our budget and still create the house we had this little dream about.
Can I just say for all those that ever hear this quote “do you think your over capitalising” the answer is, if you are going to be living in your suburb of choice with all the things around you that you love and staying there for many years creating many wonderful family memories.
Its NOT over capitalising. Its creating YOUR dream home.
Stay tuned for all the up dates every Monday.
I’m sorry, did you just tell me not to laugh or roll my eyes!?????? Seven years!? I reckon you can do it. We’ve (I’ve) decided that our next house will be the last one (at least until the kids have finished high school), as we won’t be able to afford to indulge our passion whilst paying their school fees.
I am sooo excited for you, K. Do you have land?

Good luck this time around, maybe its just a matter of finding the right(honest) builder!!
Amazing spaces, darling!
Love the pools!

I hate that bloody “B” word! With images like these as your inspiration, I hope your’s is well padded as these homes would all be well over the miland a half mark to build, not including land. Hope I don’t offend here. Hubby’s a builder and I know how painfully expensive custom homes likes these are as we build them. A $150 thou is a big blow out but that can happen in simple material cost rises over a 6-12 month time frame. Quote your budget at $50 thou less to give yourselves a buffer. Looking forward to following your project, x KL
