Black Kitchens Exposed

Initially a black kitchen can be very intimidating but once you take in your surroundings for a little longer you start to realise you can actually see more and experience the kitchen in a different way.
No longer is it a task area as it takes on personality and moodiness that is more often awaiting you in the dining area instead.
When a black Kitchen is done well (that is very subjective) it can stay current and timeless even if its used all over or just as an accent.
You need to consider if using black that it absorbs light and because of this it can make a space look smaller and more enclosed.
Keep the ceilings high or the space wide and this will help you make your black kitchen a success
If you are feeling completely overwhelmed by the moodiness of black then pairing with its best friend white, you will find it creates a sleek, sophisticated feel.
Because the white reflects the light you may find you can add it to the kitchen for your senses to feel more open.
Lets face it Black can give you a feeling of authority and direct feelings of Love it or Loathe it.
Wondering why I am talking about Black Kitchens, well I always research the possibilities of my future projects and this is one that needs some more exposure….;-)
One of my favourite black kitchen images. Usually we see a white kitchen with the occasional black accent or with your usual appliance colours of stainless, red or what’s available on trend.
Flip it and make your kitchen black and add any accent colour and its going to pop
Black cabinets can require a higher level of upkeep so you have to be completely smitten with the idea before deciding on it and then not being happy with maintenance it deserves.
Dust will stand out, as will water and soap stains and you can continually wipe it down but you may then also see the streaks……like I said commitment is the key to wanting this colour.
Sleek contemporary and bold, Black Kitchens are sophisticated and dramatic. They are dominant, powerful and somewhat mysterious.
Usually considered masculine Black Kitchens are now for the those with confidence and commitment in their style.
My images have all been pinned so sources are not always found.
If you see an image you own please let me know and I will credit you immediately.

  1. The picture with that stunning stick ball light is one of my favourites. Also, I love the kitchen with the white marble bench top. My SIL has an island bench like this and it is truly beautiful but you do have to be careful with stains.
