Eclectic Elements
Eclectic Design and the tips to achieve have been eluding me for a while so I have decided for me to be able to achieve confidently this look for any clients that I need to understand them.
Starting with this sentence
“The goal is a controlled contrast of diverse elements.”
Right!!
Apparently to truly achieve this look, you need to consider the time periods and start blending furnishings from different style and times.
There should be a mix of featured pieces but they all should hold some commonality
Most of all this should not be a room with random items just thrown together, there should be an appearance of deliberate and a shared idea should create flow
Well of course!!
The themed styles can be related by colour, texture, pattern, scale, shape or finish.
As a rule of thumb Neutral colours(white, cream, grey, black, brown, taupe and putty) are extremely important for both the backdrop of a room and also for large scale pieces to be stabilisers.
Addi9ng to this with contrasting colours then becomes extremely important
I think its making alot more sense now
Rounding Up
Some key elements to keep in mind when creating an eclectic style
Neutral background colour pallets and larger pieces
Antiques used in moderation
Contrast in colours or finishes
One of a kind items
Worn aged surfaces mixed with refined surfaces
Rough fabrics mixed with elegant textiles
Collections and sets of similar pieces
Global pieces from around the world
Traditional and modern elements together
I am thinking that the best way to decorate eclectically is to consider the
words of that great Paula Abdul song
“Opposites Attract”
with commonality
I think you have just described my house…. Love this look which truth be told evolved out of lack of funds & has developed into a fully blown addiction. Have brilliant week Madame Elements.
