Grand Design Entrances
Its the 1st impression of your home and its where your guests will make an instant assessment about how you live and what your design style is
The style of your Foyer or Entrance is the most important design decision you can make as it reflects your entire home and will set the tone for the flow of your home.
The choices start with the flooring, the paint and the lighting and the furniture will naturally follow.
A great foyer will be a safe and secure area that provides privacy from the rest of your home.
Your living areas should not be interrupted by delivery guys being able to view you from the front door as they do not need to know the goings on of the rest of your house. That’s saved purely for your friends and family.
Use the vertical space you have a tall entry and encourage your eye upwards
if you have this space decorate it with lighting or tall items.
Quite often hallways are off your foyer or are your entrance and decorating these narrow areas can be a challenge but clever furniture decisions can be beneficial.
A narrow table and wall art can create interest and a visual pause between your front door and what’s happening at the end of the hallway which could be a simple work area that is not overly deign inspired.
A interesting pendant light can also create the same pause in the hallway and can define the space as its own room and less like a thoroughfare.
Be careful not to over complicate though.
A few key items makes the style come to life and can’t you picture how the rest of the house would look via these few pieces.
Simple but effective
Wallpaper in a simple texture can be more effective as a backdrop than an overly patterned piece. These items have been placed carefully and although there is quite a mix, it works. As you can see in the reflection of the mirror this is the tone of the rest of the space.
This space is perfectly designed…..hidden storage, a plain chair, rustic flooring and a simple colour palette
East meets a contemporary West
This grand space deserves a little drama
Careful decorative lighting is all it takes.

I love the light in the last one. Soooo clever and effective.. Nice post.
Oh La La! The new look if fabulous! So true about the entry being so important for privacy. One of the common flaws of volume builder floor plans is that they have a huge glass front door in the middle of the home that has a massive corridor looking directly into the living space. No thanks, not for me! Great post….I will have to put more thought into the impression my entry will make.
X Briohny.
What fantastic images..I love the one with the mirrored tables. My entry badly needs one of these treatments! Rachaelxx
So many beautiful entrances…such an important design space – as you noted, it’s people’s first impression!!
Some of these vignettes are so delicious. Great post.
