MY AH HA MOMENT

I have just found out what my style is with a twist…….who would have thought it would have come this late into my life considering this is what I do for a living.
British West Indies Style
When I can look at an image of a house and fall in love and be able to identify with so many of the elements that make up this style.
It also captures a little of the Plantation or Savannah style.
To identify this style you will see the use of mahogany furnishings, tropical prints, bamboo and rattan, and such design elements as monkeys, palm trees, ticking stripes, leather and wicker.
Because the British travelled near and far during the Queen Victoria Era they collected and took with them their findings from The Caribbean to the Far East, India, Africa and even Hong Kong.
Hence the mixture of textures and finishes blended but with a slant on casual.
So now I understand my longing for wanting to travel and stay at The Raffles Singapore..

  5. Although I like many different styles, this is my all-time, absolute favourite. Ever since I first clapped eyes on India Hicks’ gorgeous piece of island perfection, I knew I’d found design nirvana. Great post, and some lovely images too! K xx

  6. It’s a beautiful elegant style and seems to be the next big thing after the ‘French’ phase we’ve all just come out of!!! It brings ones heart rate down doesn’t it. Elegant but so relaxed. A-M xx

  7. Thanks for all your comments…I am thinking I will have to start thinking about building again one day with these sorts of images embedding themselves in my mind…
